AYLAcademy Graduation

Back in January, H4C had the wonderful opportunity to conduct a Pitch Hackathon with the amazing young ladies of the AYLAcademy at Ingleside Elementary School in Norfolk. On Friday, March 23rd, we attended their graduation to present certificates to the participants and award the winners! They all used excellent critical thinking and analysis skills and had great thought-provoking conversations with their teammates to come up with some outstanding ideas but we had to narrow it down to one winning group. The winners were (drum roll please….) Morgan Hill and T’Kaiya Johnson (unable to attend the graduation). They were awarded with a trophy, STEM Pin, and a coding game to continue their interest in learning to code. Congratulations young ladies! Thank you again to SheMatters and their Founder and CEO LaJuan Hines for allowing us to come in and host with you all.

AYLAcademy Pitch Hackathon!

Hack for Community had the honor of pairing up with the AYLAcademy with a Pitch Hackathon! The girls learned the different careers necessary to create mobile apps then they got right to work developing an app idea that can positively impact a community they are a part of. Some girls chose to help their school community while others chose their neghborhoods. All of the girls did an amazing job working in groups, developing their plan and presenting their ideas to the group. Winners will be awarded at their AYLAcademy graduation in March. A special thanks to LaJauan Hines and the ODU volunteers for having us! We had an amazing time!
